City Public Safety Manager Martin Chimombe says no one will be exempted in the ongoing traffic enforcement blitz meant to restore order in the Central Business District.
Mr Chimombe said this while addressing Traffic Enforcement officers at a parade recently held at Les Brown Swimming Pool.
On Monday, Council launched a blitz that is meant to deal with traffic offenders as well as mushika-shika menace that continue to cause chaos and unnecessary congestion in the CBD.
“I want to emphasize that no one will be spared from the operation. It does not matter whether you work for Council or State this does not give you the right to undermine our laws,” he said.
“Our by-laws must be respected equally by everyone because as it stands the same by-laws, they prescribe how we should behave in this City. So we won’t have individuals wanting to use their power against such by-laws.”
Mr Chimombe said traffic officers had raised their concerns to the effect that they are facing challenges from people who are abusing their power in their course of duties.
Motorists’ failure to adhere to traffic by laws has resulted in chaos within the city for instance unbearable traffic congestion and going through red lights.
The use of unlawful drop off points is another major problem that is on the rise in the city due to recklessness of motorists.
Mr Chimombe said there are traffic cameras installed at Jason Moyo Avenue and Julius Nyerere meant to capture traffic violators.
He said of the traffic cameras, one is for ZRP while the other one captures traffic violators for Council.Harare Traffic Enforcement
