City of Harare Gender Champion and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Rosemary Muronda, is leading female Councillors and officials participating in a two-day Female Councillors Leadership Development Workshop currently underway in Harare. The programme is strengthening female Councillors’ understanding of their mandate, institutional boundaries, chamber conduct, public leadership presence, objective decision-making, gender-responsive governance and their role in promoting accountable service delivery. The workshop is also encouraging female Councillors to support and empower one another in leadership, particularly by creating opportunities for more women to take up strategic positions such as Chairpersons of Council Committees. Participating Councillors include Cllrs Kudzai Kadzombe, Chipo Suka, Moud Chinyerere, Mirriam Chirumuuta, Susan Chuma, Mercy Kasvosve, Fadzai Mutasa, Takudzwa Dzumbunu, Diana Nyikadzino, Winnet Nzou, Rufaro Matsika and Teresa Tomasi. The programme is being facilitated by Dr Justine Chinoperekweyi, Mrs Rumbidzai Pamela Fate, Ms Musa Gumede and Ms Dorothy Rudo Nyagumbo. Head of the School of Excellence, Mr Stewart Mungofa, is coordinating the programme, which continues to play an important role in nurturing and strengthening women’s leadership within Council.
