The City of Harare in partnership with Helcraw have reaffirmed their commitment to working with government and communities to restore dignity through improved water delivery. This came out on Tuesday when the City hosted government officials for a monitoring and oversight tour of ongoing water and sanitation infrastructure projects across the capital. The tour was part of broader efforts to track delivery, address bottlenecks, and ensure transparency in the implementation of the city’s water rehabilitation programme. Some Mabelreign Flats residents shared how the project has already made a difference in their lives. For years, a blocked pipe had cut off supply to the flats, leaving households to struggle for water. Following pipe replacement works and the removal of the blockage, residents said they are now able to access water again. During interactions with the monitoring team, residents also expressed appreciation for the installation of prepaid meters, noting that the new system has made it easier for them to manage usage and access water more reliably. Whilst addressing the delegation, Office of the President representative said the area had gone for about three to four years with a blocked pipe, and that the intervention is a relief to the residents who are now receiving water at least twice a week. Urban Infrastructure Projects Africa a consulting firm, which was hired by the City of Harare and Helcraw, was on site to explain other technical aspects of the works. Their input helped clarify engineering challenges, timelines, and the standards being applied as new pipes are laid and old networks are rehabilitated. The government monitoring team noted the importance of continued oversight to ensure that projects meet timelines, reach intended beneficiaries, and deliver lasting impact
