Harare City Cubs slipped into the relegation zone of Ruyamuro Northern Region Division One after falling 1-0 to Black Mambas at Morris Depot stadium in Harare last week.
The result left the cubs sitting on position 15 on the 18 team log
The Cubs have been struggling for form this season, blowing hot and cold against some of the best teams in the league.
They have posted impressive results against front runners such as Herentials U19 and Golden Eagles, only to lose with a rugby score line against Simba Bhora.
Against Black Mambas, the Cubs made their presence felt but they were not classical in front of goal.
Rising sensation Irvin Mapisa again showed his mettle as he created many chances for the team which were however denied by an impressive Jere in goal for Black Mambas.
In the 76th minute Philip Jena was penalised for a foul in the box and Prince Kanzuwa saved the resultant penalty.
However, the assistant referee adjudged that Kanzuwa moved before the kick and up stepped Chifamba who made no mistake from nine yards out.
Cubs midfilder Mapisa felt hard done by the assistant referee.
“The match was tough and what costed us mostly is the penalty that the assistant referee said must be taken again when it is clear that our goalkeeper did not move,” he said.
Cubs assistant coach Kingston Mashini said that the team played very good football especially the defence side.
“Besides that penalty there was no other meaningful chance they got for them to score,” said Mashini.
He said that they are now going back and work on the attacking side to get ready for the next match on Saturday against Trojan Stars FC.
