Harare City Council is carrying out a sewer pipeline replacement project in Mbare in an effort to minimize sewer blockages in the area.
Harare Water Superintendent Mr Rodrick Mamvura said currently the city was attending to areas such as Jabulani Shops, Miyanda, Muchenje, Tomson Samukange and Rusike before moving to other areas.
Mamvura said the old asbestos pipelines could only accommodate a maximum of 200 households but the new PVC pipes would be able to cater for the growing population in Mbare.
He said Council was upgrading from the Asbestos 150 diameter to 250 PVC diameter pipes.
The length of the pipelines being installed on our first spot are 500 metres in depth and 4.5 metres deep.
"This process will help deal with sewer blockages because of the upgrades in sewer reticulation," he said.
"We are sure that this will limit cholera outbreaks around the city," said Mamvura.
