This was highlighted by Mayor Clr Jacob Mafume during the 1919th full council held recently at Town House.
Mayor Mafume said the matter has since been over due and needs some closure.
“I received a communication talking about what we are doing with war veterans that are working in council and war veterans at large. As a council we are concerned about the welfare of these war veterans.
“I will be meeting the war veterans’ leadership and those working in council and look at the things we have done so that we can deepen and accelerate the things that council is doing for them.
“For those still working in council we have increased their grades, we have pushed them a grade upwards and we had indicated that they will get residential stands.
“We are going to make sure that residential stands will be allocated to those that do not have,” said Mayor Mafume.
He added that to those who already have council will look on ways to assist them in terms of business wise and their pensions.
He also said that those with cars should be given free parking space in the CBD.
This was seconded by Clr Blessing Duma who suggested that these war veterans should receive free health care from all council hospitals and clinics.
Clr Duma said council should also cater for their children’s school fees for those who still have school going kids.
Clr Danford Ngadziore also echoed the same sentiments saying council should also look in the matter of the elderly who are 70 years and above with cars should receive free parking space in the CBD.
