City of Harare has embarked on a massive awareness campaign aimed at educating residents on the need to keep a clean environment and proper waste disposal.
The campaign kicked off in Sunningdale.
During the campaign in Sunningdale, the City conducted door-to-door waste collections.
Sunningdale community with the assistance of the local Councillor Hammy Madzingira will adopt a refuse compactor which will be used for weekly door-to-door collections in the area to ensure consistency in collections.
Sunshine News caught with Sunningdale resident Pamela Laina who thanked the City for collecting waste.
“We are happy with what City of Harare is doing for us by clearing up these heaped illegal dumpsites.”
“Sunningdale was no-longer a safe environment for children and adults since we were at risk of water borne diseases diarrhoea,’’ said Laina.
The stakeholder engagements programmes by the City will be conducted in all the wards in an effort to make Harare a smart and liveable City.
The awareness campaigns come following Special Council Resolution to carry out an intensive refuse collection and launch of Operation Chenesa Harare.
During the operation, Council will fine litterbugs and will enforce Statutory Instrument 30 of 2016 (Anti-litter by-laws).
