The City’s fight against the novel Coronavirus recently received a boost when globally acclaimed Afro-Asia International Import and Export (Pvt) Ltd donated a human temperature body detection booth for use at Town House. The donation was received by Mayor Cllr Jacob Mafume. Speaking at the event Mayor Mafume said the donation dovetails with the concept of a smart city which he has promised to champion. “Can I take this opportunity to call upon other corporates and individuals to emulate what Afro-Asia International Import and Export Company has done. We are still in the middle of this pandemic and as it stands we are not sure what the future holds. We still need to keep holding our hands together so that we do not all drown,” he said. “On behalf of the City of Harare management, staff and residents I would like to thank Afro-Asia International Import and Export Company for this generous donation and encourage you to stretch your hands even further, not just to us but other Zimbabweans as well.” Town House was recently affected when some employees at the City’s Headquarters tested positive for coronavirus. Afro-Asia International Import and Export Marketing Executive Aisha Magwengwe said the booth will be useful both in the Covid and post-Covid period. “The Walk in Human body Temperature Detection Gate will be used to check body temperature for staff members and visitors as they walk in and out of the office buildings, this will help to screen people at the point of Entry, as those with high fever will be immediately detected and possibly taken to Hospital or Clinic for proper further medical testing of the Covid Virus. “As a company with its roots in China, We have seen how the use of advanced technologies like this device has helped the country in fighting and controlling the pandemic in the most effective way possible especially in places with mass movement of people like most City Council facilities where the use of small Infrared thermometer is not the safest way because it requires constant Human interaction,” she said. She said our country is lagging behind technological in the fight against the virus. Accepting the donation, the Mayor said the donation will go a long way in controlling the virus. “This device will go a long way in controlling the virus situation especially on screening staff and visitors at the point of Entry. “I am also told that the machine is very important during and post-Covid era as many people might still be carriers of this virus which might lead to a big resurgence of the virus,” he said. The machine will see staff members and visitors to Town House being able to be checked their temperature and sanitize their hands without human interface.
