Harare City Netball Queens were knocked out in the quarter finals of the season opening Premier Netball League tournament held at Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex last Saturday. City felt the need of a few marquee signings especially in the front where they missed regular shooter Mercy Chinyama through illness. City struggled for scores and could have won a few games had it not been for the misfiring makeshift shooters that were trusted to do the job during the tournament. City will need to do something urgently to restore their status as one of the most feared teams in the country otherwise the gap between them and teams such as Platinum Queens, Ngezi Platinum, ZDF and Green Fuel will continue growing. However, Queens coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki said that the tournament gave them a chance to see where they are lacking as a team and to leave room for improvement as they get ready for the new season. “I am very happy with this tournament as it enabled us to see where we are going as a team as we begin a new season,” he said. He said he was impressed by the way his team played and their efforts that landed them a spot in the semifinals in spite of numerous challenges within the team. The team’s loss in the quarterfinals did not dampen his mood but served as an eye opener that reflected on the City Queens’ capability of winning if they sign new players. “I am hopeful that in the coming matches our team would have been beefed up as we hope to secure two shooters and that will strengthen our frontline,” he said. The Premier Netball League is expected to start in three weeks’ time and by then Mutsauki is hopefully they will be ready to challenge for honours.
