Harare City Council has called upon residents to adhere to Council building by-laws during construction of their properties to avoid penalties.
City Architect Mr Leonard Chirombo said an approved building plan from the local authority is required for one to commence construction.
‘’The requirement from the City of Harare is that one needs an approved building plan to start the building process.
‘’During construction plan all the six stages need to be inspected for example setting out, compaction, foundation, window levels up to roof level and there are penalties for skipping any stage’’, said Chirombo.
Mr Chirombo said any building in the city should meet the standards required by council.
“Residents should inquire with the local authorities to get technical knowledge on building their structures, they need to engage with us to build sound structures
“Any new structures which are put up are built to a certain standard guided by the city authorities,” he said.
He also urged residents to have a certificate of occupation which shows that their structures comply with all building by-laws.
