City of Harare is providing Community Halls and Community Centres for Arts groups as a way of promoting cultural diversity, Acting Housing and Community Services, Mr lnnocent Sibusiso Sithole has said.
Speaking during official opening of the cultural month held in Mufakose running under the theme promoting cultural diversity, unity and peace, Mr Sithole said Council aims to promote community development through arts and culture.
He said Zimbabwean cultures should not be diluted and citizens should be proud of it.
"Let us not despise our own culture as black people and let’s continue working towards uplifting African culture," he said.
Mr Sithole said the local authority is working with various stakeholders and partners to turn existing community facilities into Arts and Culture hubs.
He said the role played by cultures in Zimbabwe to promote peace and unity cannot be ignored.
"We have seen various cultures educating the community on gender based violence, drug and substance abuse through poetry, drama and other artistic work," he said.
Mr Sithole added that celebrating the culture month helps the nation recognise how cultures in Zimbabwe are promoting entrepreneurship amongst youths.
Various Cultural groups, musicians and poets graced the event.
