Speaking during the commemorations held at Townhouse, principal planner for traffic and transportation Mr Brian Zvomuya said it is everyone's duty to participate in making roads safe for every user.
He said every road user should observe road rules to reduce traffic related injuries.
"Together we can make our roads safe again," he said.
Jane Takwana traffic safety officer at Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) said her organisation delivers road traffic education to school children.
She said this is a long term life investment as it teaches young minds ways to preserve life on the roads.
She said every adult should familiarise with the Zimbabwean Highway Code in a bid to make transportation mobility and use of roads safe for every user.
ZRP Superintendent Terence Masongosi said motorists should play a pivotal role in observing road rules and avoiding human error accidents to ensure safety on the roads.
"We have more criminals in our motorists than pedestrians," he said.
Tanaka Chembezi from Bonelessons Skateboarding encouraged every road user to consider alternative modes of transport that are environment friendly like cycling and Skateboarding.
He said roads are not for cars only but cycles and skateboards too.
Marcus Zvinavashe from Caligraph said cycling and walking should become central in the mobility.
Motorists were urged to respect other road users like pedestrians and cyclists.
According to UN Habitat 260 pedestrians and about 20 cyclists are killed on Africa’s roads everyday.
