The City of Harare, in collaboration with various stakeholders, yesterday hosted a Community Health and Wellness Expo on Breast Cancer Awareness at Zimbabwe Hall in Highfields. The event which was held under the theme "Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters," was aimed at educating the public on early detection, treatment, and prevention of breast cancer, while empowering communities to take control of their health. Speaking at the event Deputy Mayor Cllr Rosemary Muronda said breast cancer is the second most common cancer affecting women in Zimbabwe hence the expo is a place to share knowledge, offer support and build communities. Deputy Mayor Cllr Muronda encouraged women to get screened regularly and seek professional help when having cancer symptoms. “Let's work together and have three clear ways which can help in this fight. Get checked, have regular screening and self-examination. Validation truly saves lives and gives support," she said. By promoting awareness and education, the event was aimed at reducing mortality rate associated with breast cancer. The City of Harare has been actively involved in breast cancer awareness initiatives, with the Cllr Muronda emphasizing the importance of regular screenings and seeking professional help when symptoms arise. In her closing remarks at the event, Cllr Jane Bhingari encouraged all those who attended the event to share the knowledge and awareness gained with their families, friends, and communities.
