Harare City Council is set to beautify and transform the face of the city in the next phase of the 3-year-old 100-day Rapid Results Initiative.
Dubbed the City Urban Renewal Program, the program will mainly focus on the Central Business District and later spread to the rest of the city.
Speaking during the launch of the program today, Mayor Cllr Hebert Gomba said the city is focusing on providing important services to the residents.
“When we come into office on the 18th of September 2018 in this room and one of the major thrust of the plan was to beautify the City and attend to key service delivery issues.
“We are building into the major success of the previous phases and today we are here to demonstrate our commitment to upscale the program and spread the scope to beautification of our Islands, replacement of pavements, construction of new modern public convenience facilities, grass cutting, storm water drain clearance, illegal dumps, clearance and rehabilitation of water roads”, he said
He said replacements of pavements, building of Islands, grass cutting, storm water drain clearance, illegal dumps clearance and rehabilitation of roads and need to improve water supply to the residents of Harare are plans that are on the dashboard of the City of Harare and various interventions are being implemented
He revealed that in terms water supply, government promised to include Kunzvi Dam in the 2020 budget and Council is going to purchase water bowsers and deployed in areas with erratic supplies of water while plans are also underway to purchase mobile water treatment plants.
“Government has promised to include Kunzvi Dam in the 2020 budget so we hope our water problems will be put to rest.

Council has been reviewing various local area plans and to date that Avondale and Belvedere that is why several business and offices are coming up these areas.
“A shopping mall is under construction at the Zimbabwe showground and soon there is going to be a hotel and convention center
“We are also working on the Mbare renewal program which will see new blocks of flats, shopping mall, the rehabilitation of Mbare Musika and the bus terminus,” said the Mayor
