Harare City Council is set to introduce a system which allows business people to apply and be issued with business licenses online to reduce human interface and corruption.
According to the minutes of the Education, Health, Housing and Community Services and Licensing Committee Mayor Cllr Herbert Gomba implored Health Services director Dr Prosper Chonzi and Information Communication Technology (ICT) Manager Samson Madzokere to introduce the application.
“His Worship, the Mayor moved a motion seconded by Councillor Tendai Matafi, that the Director of Health Services in liaison with the Information Communication Technology (ICT) manager to come up with an IT application which allows on-line issuance of Business Licenses and payment of fees for the same in order to reduce incidences of human interface and subsequent corruption.”
Mayor Gomba also urged Dr Chonzi to beef up the team which carries out business license inspections.
“Gone are days of waiting in queues to register for a business we need to develop an e-culture,” he said.
