Rufaro Stadium the ceremonial home of domestic football now has a spanking new look – natural grass.
The stadium opens for domestic football in the second half of the season following renovations and laying of the new turf.
The artificial turf had outlived its life span and council was unable to rejuvenate it. It was laid under the FIFA Win in Africa for Africa Program.
The artificial turf had become hard, brittle, slippery and dangerous to football players. In some instances it had become too dangerous to play on and many doctors were attributing injuries to the turf at the stadium.
Professional players, world over prefer playing on natural grass.
