Harare will host the second edition of the local authorities’ sports festival end of October.
The festival was held in the capital last year and is supposed to rotate among the participating local authorities. The organising committee has decided to give Harare another go so as to correct glitches that were encountered last year.
This year, the event will be staged at the University of Zimbabwe grounds. L ast year two venues were used.
The festival is the brain child of Harare City Council designed to improve cooperation and teamwork between employees, management and councillors with a broader view to improve service delivery.
Last year, ten local authorities participated with the host cleaning the medal haul.
With growing interest from other local authorities and stakeholders, the event is slowly becoming a national event and suggestions are that it will be held under two regions – the north and south - with winners specified disciplines competing at national level after every two years.
The national event will be held over two days.
Next year the festival is likely to be hosted by either Chitungwiza or Kadoma.
Kadoma holds its centenary celebrations next year while Chitungwiza had volunteered to host this year’s event but pulled out because of financial constraints.
