Harare City Council will close down institutions which are operating illegally among them churches, hotels, universities and restaurants.
Council has urged the owners of the institutions to engage the city’s Works Department at Cleveland Building by 30 June 2019 with a view to regularise their operations or risk having their businesses or churches being closed.
“In terms of section 9 of the Harare (African Township) By-Laws of 1979, it is illegal to operate without Certificates of Place of Assembly hence they must take this opportunity regularise their work places,’’ said council.
Council said penalty charges will be levied on the owner’s rates accounts.
The list also includes halls, colleges, schools, cinema’s, beer halls and sports clubs.
