Council has partnered a local environment management company - Clean City for door to door refuse collection in 22 suburbs.
Council will deal with all the high density suburbs excluding Mbare, Mabvuku and Tafara which are catered for by the Econet Wireless owned company.
Suburbs that continue under the city’s direct management are Glen View, Glen Norah, Budiriro, Mufakose, Dzivarasekwa, Warren Park, Rugare, Westlea, Highfield and Kambuzuma.
Suburbs catered for in the deal are Avenues, Avondale, Belvedere, Mbare, Southerton, Cranborne, Eastlea, Hatfied, Sunningdale, Waterfalls, Alexander Park, Mabelreign, Marlborough, Mt Pleasant, Westgate, Borrowdale, Greendale, Hatcliffe and Highlands. Names of other suburbs might not necessarily appear here because they are covered by the bigger suburbs.
Clean City collects waste from households to a central location where the city refuse trucks will cart it to Pomona Landfill.
Residents have been complaining over uncollected garbage which they said caused diseases and brought flies.
The deal is expected to offer the much needed relief and make the city’s suburbs shine once more.
Environment and Amenities Manager Mr Lisben Chipfunde confirmed the deal.
He said Clean City will provide bin liners in the 22 suburbs. “During this period, Clean City will also be providing bin liners to the residential properties in their areas,” he said.
He said council will continue to collecting refuse and dispose of waste directly to Pomona Dumpsite in High density areas as there are no central collection points.
“The door to door refuse collection programme with Clean City will be continually expanded into other areas as capacity improves,” he said.
