Harare City Council in partnership with Redeemed Christian Church of God has handed over a solar powered borehole to the residents of Mabvuku Tafara Ward 19.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony the Acting Mayor councilor Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi urged residents of Mabvuku and Tafara to maintain the borehole and protect it from vandals.
“I want to thank the Redeemed Christian Church of God for the wonderful job they have done here. They gave us this property so let us all be responsible in maintaining and protecting this borehole.”
Clr Kufahakutizwi said council was seeking a solution to the city’s perennial water problems but for the time being boreholes and mobile water treatment facikities have been touted as temporary measures to avert a crisis.
Ward 19 Clr Mercy Kasvosve who initiated the development thanked the Redeemed Christian Church of God urging the community to take full responsibility.
Councilor Kasvosve and the Redeemed Christian Church of God donated sanitary wear to women and girls who witnessed the official opening.
