The second state of the city address by His Worship Mayor Herbert Gomba has attracted big names in the city that include former Mayors Muchadeyi Masunda, Bernard Manyenyeni, diplomats, Government officials, and Members of Parliament.
Former Mayor Manyenyeni is the brainchild of the report back address.
The State of the City Address has become an important part of the Mayoral calendar which we promise to uphold.
"As a City, we are not ashamed to take responsibility and be frank about the limitations and challenges that confront us. Today we are able to stand before you and report on these and the successes we have recorded under a constrained fiscal space. This is an important event on our calendar because it gives us an opportunity to advise our esteemed stakeholders, valued residents and ratepayers on the state of affairs in the City. This should be the case because Council is a public institution and issues of accountability and transparency must be at the core of our operations," said Mayor Gomba.
He said soon after assuming office he faced one of his biggest challenges when there was an outbreak of cholera in Glen View.
"This was a test case on our leadership as Council and the Executive. We managed to contain the outbreak, of course, with support from our critical stakeholders. Commendations go to the Government, corporates, various international organizations and all individuals who responded to the distress call and assisted in the fight against cholera. With your help, this scourge was eventually under control by year end," he said.
