Barely days after an inferno razed down parts of Siyaso Home Industry Complex, another fire has gutted a mini shopping mall at Mbare at the busy Mbare Musika destroying property worth thousands of dollars and leaving several entrepreneurs hopeless.
On Monday, fire destroyed a part of Siyaso Complex, leaving a trail of destruction.
The latest fire, whose cause is still to be ascertained, is believed to have started around 1am destroying five market shells popularly known as ‘Both Shops’ at the back of Vito Bar adjacent to Mbare Musika.
One of the affected businessmen Mr Netmore Mafunga, who repairs electrical gadgets is still to take stock of his losses.
“We are still compiling the list of goods that were in the shop.
“We did not recover anything. None of the operators was here when the fire started. There was a guard on duty who informed the police,” he said.
Ms Eustina Madziva (56) could not hold her tears as she looked at the remains of her once flourishing uniform making business.
She also sells ice cream.
“I will not be able to run a business again. Everything in my life depended on this business.
“All my clients’ orders were destroyed, you can see the destruction in here, I do not even know how I will be able to repay them,” she said, holding her tears back.
She blamed the current power challenges as the causes to the fire.
“I think someone might have left some gadgets switched on, you know with the current ZESA problems, it could started the fire,” she said.
She thanked the City’s Fire Department for saving one of her sewing machines, the only item saved from her investment.
“Everything my life depended on was destroyed. All lease agreements to this shop, receipts and business licences were destroyed,” she said.
Acting chief fire officer Mr Lovemore Mafukidze said they were still investigating the cause of the fire.
